Dogs in Jumpers my very first Book! I was so delighted that the lovely people at Pavilion approached me to write this book, and I’m very proud of the results!
For all keen Dog Loving Knitters this book needs to be in your hands! There are 14 dog jumper knitting patterns ranging from Chihuahua to Greyhound size, and one lovely patchwork blanket.
I selected a range of yarn from my favourite suppliers, Rowan, Yarn Stories, Erika Knight, Wendy and Louisa Harding. All the designs have some sort of texture to the knitting, many inspired by my huge collection of Vintage patterns. I just love the wayt that using the knit and purl stitches you can create such a variety of wonderful finishes. Many of these stitch combinations are seldom used these days.
The Pawability Scale will tell the knitter if the task is easy (one paw) or more difficult (up to three paws) – but don’t forget, the patterns will knit up just as well if you can only do stocking stitch – right side knit, wrong side purl – because the finished shapes of the jumpers are good for the various breed types they have been designed for.
It was not possible in this book to provide a range of sizes for each style, but many will adapt – for instance, if you wanted to knit Edie’s Robust Romp Around Jumper for your whippet – because it was designed for a Bedlington, you could just knit the top layer and under panel longer to fit your dog, as the neck, leg and shoulder area will be very similar.
There is something for everyone and lots of handy hints and a guide on how to measure your dog and alter the pattern to fit.
The Patchwork Blanket is a great way to get yourself introduced to some of the knitting techniques that are used for the jumpers and also a good way to use up your stash of wool!!
I hope you have as much fun with Dogs in Jumpers as I had writing it and please do share images of your creations on our Facebook or Instagram pages.
